Dr. Leigh Samanowitz

Dr. Leigh Samanowitz, known to many of her clients as Dr. Sam, is the owner and Chief of Staff at University Animal Clinic. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from the University of Florida before graduating from the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Sam is passionate about giving back to the profession and has proudly partnered with her alma mater, the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, to mentor veterinary students. Through this partnership, she helps students gain hands-on experience in a hospital setting, with a special focus on exotic pet care, before they graduate.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Sam enjoys spending time outdoors with her two big dogs — Guinness, a Bernese Mountain Dog rescue from the Humane Society at Lakewood Ranch, and Max, her Old English Sheepdog (and the inspiration behind the clinic logo!). She’s also an avid knitter… and yes, she’s fully aware that she lives in Florida.
