Our Veterinary Clinic is Involved in the Communities of Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, and Sarasota

University Animal Clinic - University ParkUniversity Animal Clinic is a full service animal clinic, located in University Park. We are proud to provide the best in wellness and emergency care to a wide variety of pets in Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, Manatee, and Sarasota. Our veterinarians, Dr. Leigh Samanowitz and Dr. Alison Fink have come together to head up a highly skilled, extensively trained veterinary staff, specializing in the care and treatment of small and exotic animals. At University Animal Clinic, we are prepared to offer the latest proven treatments of orthopedic and emergency issues, as well as providing simple vaccination and spay and neuter services. We’re dedicated to ensuring that the pet owners of Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, Sarasota and beyond have access to the best pet care possible.

AAHA - University Animal ClinicWe are proud to carry an AAHA rating, meaning that our veterinary staff and animal hospital have been evaluated based on over 900 different medical and service standards, and were found to be exemplary. With this in mind, we hope pet owners will feel comfortable and confident trusting their pets in our care. It is our goal to be the premier vet for the residents of Sarasota, Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, and the greater Florida area. Our AAHA rating is a testament to our standard of excellence.

Additionally, in 2008, Sarasota Magazine named our animal clinic Best Veterinary Clinic, and in 2009, Creative Loafing Magazine gave us the honor or Best Vet of the Suncoast. We were doubly honored by Living Out East Magazine, in which we were named Best Veterinarian in 2009 and again in 2010. Our experience in using advanced technology, our thorough knowledge of orthopedic treatment for pets, and our prowess in pet surgery are only a few of the standards in which we excel.

Southeastern Guide Dog Walkathon

Dr. Leigh Samanowitz, Dr. Alison Fink and Erika participated in the Southeastern Guide Dog’s Walkathon, raising funds to help increase independence for their graduates and to increase their ability to provide the best guide dogs around the work. Participants enjoyed a 3K walk, music, and an offer of a free office visit to University Animal Clinic.

Nate’s 5K Run

The staff at University Animal Clinic participated in a 5K run in order to raise money for Nate’s Honor animal rescue. The event was hosted at Nathaniel Benderson Park off of University road in Sarasota and with a great turn out, money was raised to help the rescue organization. We’re extremely pleased with the results of this 5K fundraising effort and thank the local Sarasota community for their help!

Welcome Home Abby

Dr. Samanowitz and Dr. Fink - National Microchip DayNational Microchip day through the AVMA and AAHA is celebrated on August 15th and the Epstein’s could think of nothing better than to use this day to educate pet owners on the importance of microchipping our pets and to celebrate the safe return of their beloved Abby. Abby was lost on July 3rd from the Epstein’s home in Sarasota and was then found all the way in Georgia on July 24th due to her having a registered microchip! At this event, Dr. Leigh Samanowitz and Dr. Alison Fink scanned numerous pets to check for microchips and placed new chips into pets that were found to not have one already. Having a microchip is so important to helping our pets’ safe return home if they are ever lost. Call UAC today to have your pet scanned for a chip!

Our Animal Hospital Works with the Racing Dog Rescue Project

At University Animal Clinic, we believe that “Caring Only Requires Love.” With this in mind, we dedicate a great deal of our time and talents to our relationship with and support of the Racing Dog Rescue Project (RDRP). This is a non-profit organization, committed to the rescue, care, treatment, and placement of greyhounds, abandoned by the racing circuit. The sport of greyhound racing maintains its vast popularity, and these beautiful, mild dogs are raised to race. However, once a greyhound becomes too old to race well, he becomes retired, and the owner no longer has a need for them. The RDRP is committed to helping the retired greyhounds of Lakewood Ranch, University Park, Bradenton, and Sarasota by finding adoptive homes where they are able to live their lives in safety and security.

We, at UAC, offer medical treatment for the greyhounds rescued by the RDRP. This includes vaccinations, spay and neuter treatments, most surgery if needed. The goal is to make these dogs more adoptable by ensuring they are healthy and ready to transition into a home. Often, the medical needs of a retired greyhound fall under the orthopedic realm. This is due, in part, to the anatomical structure inherent to the breed and also to the physical rigors of the life of a racing dog. We have the expertise necessary to meet the specific needs of this wonderful breed.
If you are an adoptive owner of a retired greyhound, we would like to be your veterinarian and have the opportunity to care for your pet, from the initial spay and neuter needs and vaccinations to any orthopedic or emergency issues down the road.

  • We are actively involved with the Humane Society of Sarasota County to provide free initial exams on any newly adopted pet within 7 days of that adoption. Their website is www.hssc.org.
  • We have unique partnerships with Vet Care Express. They provide both emergency and non-emergency transport for pets throughout Manatee and Sarasota counties. Their website is www.vetcareexpress.com.
  • We also partner with Pets Plus+ in Parrish, Florida. We inspect and assure proper conditions exist for housing some of their exotic species. We provide discounts on veterinary visits for newly purchased animals that choose to be seen by our veterinarians. Their website can be found at www.petsplusfl.com.
  • We also work very closely with PetCo and Pet Supermarket, ensuring the veterinary health of the pets they have available for purchase. We have found both of these facilities very caring in the maintenance of their animals. Their websites can be found at www.PetCo.com and www.PetSupermarket.com.

UAC is proud to be a provider of comprehensive pet care for the local communities of Bradenton, Sarasota, Lakewood Ranch and for pet owners from across Florida! Thank you for choosing us.
