Laser Therapy in Lakewood Ranch, Florida

Home services laser therapy pets

Your pet is a valued member of your family. When they’re in pain, you want to do anything you can to make them feel better. Laser therapy for pets is a great option to improve quality of life, reduce discomfort and alleviate inflammation. At University Animal Clinic we offer laser therapy in Lakewood Ranch, and the surrounding areas.

After your pet’s first laser treatment, you should notice instantaneous improved mobility, quality of life and muscle strength as they hop on the bed to snuggle or chase their favorite ball around the yard. So what does the process involve?

What Is Laser Therapy?

Laser therapy, also known as red-light therapy, photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) and low-level laser therapy (LLLT), is a non-invasive, drug-free treatment that can help decrease pain from a variety of conditions.

It can also be used with other treatments to help release endorphins and improve healing.

How Does Laser Therapy Treatment Work?

During a laser therapy treatment, both you and your pet will wear protective glasses. A technician will hold a deep-penetrating laser wand directly over the problem area for three to 10 minutes.

Most dogs or cats will relax during this time, which helps them stay comfortable. However, you can stay in the room with your dog or pet to relieve some initial anxiety.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF

Laser Therapy Treatments For Pets?

There are numerous benefits of laser therapy treatment for pets. Typically, lasers reduce inflammation through vasodilation, which activates the lymphatic drainage system. This drains swollen areas and reduces swelling from bruising or inflammation — helping reduce pain.

Laser therapy for cats and dogs also stimulates the nerve cells that block pain signals from transmitting to the brain. Finally, lasers can help produce more endorphins, which act as painkilling compounds.

What Is Laser Therapy Used To Treat For Pets

Laser therapy for dogs and cats treats a wide variety of conditions, such as:

  • Open wounds
  • Muscle, ligament and tendon injuries
  • Back pain
  • Acute and chronic ear infections
  • Degenerative joint disease
  • Arthritis
  • And more

Older animals that experience general discomfort can also benefit from laser therapy. If you notice your dog or cat has significantly decreased their normal activity, are slow to get up, limping or aren’t keeping up their natural grooming habits, they may have some pain or discomfort. Laser therapy can help them feel like they used to.

What Types Of Pets Does Laser Therapy Work Best For?

Laser therapy works for both cats and dogs. Your technician will talk to you about your pet’s specific ailment and how laser therapy can help. Then they can tailor the session’s length and recommend the number of ongoing treatments based on your pet’s needs.

Are There Any Side Effects Of Laser Therapy Treatment?

Laser therapy for pets is generally considered safe with little or no side effects. However, some pets are not candidates for laser therapy. For example, applying a laser over a tumor could cause tumor growth, and you should not use lasers on a pregnant dog or cat.

How Much Does A Laser Therapy Session For My Pet Cost?

The cost depends on the type of treatment (acute vs. chronic) and location. Acute, one-time treatment is $20 per session and chronic arthritis treatment of both hips is $35 per session.

How Frequently Should My Pet Receive Laser Therapy?

The frequency of treatment depends on what we are lasering. A surgical site or ear infection may be a single treatment whereas an arthritic hip may need a treatment 2-3 times a week for a few weeks then decrease from there as their health improves. There is no limit to the number of laser therapy sessions a pet can have.

How Long Will It Take To See Results Of Laser Therapy For My Pet?

Laser therapy sessions typically take between 3-5 treatments to start seeing results, with acute problems closer to 3 sessions and arthritis and chronic issues being closer to 5 sessions.

What Our Clients Have To Say

Brought my baby ferret here, Dr. Sam was awesome about letting me ask all of my questions and giving me direct answers (really bothers me when we see a vet for our cats and can’t get clear answers).

Katie Martin

The staff and doctors were extremely helpful and kind. I feel confident in their ability to diagnose and treat my puppies. I’m so thankful they were referred to me by a friend.

Patty Sisson

Most caring and helpful Vet ever. The staff are amazing and are so wonderful with all pets. They take amazing care of my two fur babies. I wouldn’t trust my two pups with anyone else. You can really tell how much the love animals.

Jean Hamilton

By far the best vet I have ever been to! We just moved to the area and by some horrible chance had two pet emergencies in our first month with my pets, Moose and Thor. Not only did they get us in same day..

Joe R

Incredibly grateful to the staff of University Animal Clinic. We have been a customer for over 20 years. They were able to take care of our dog Duke today for an unscheduled appointment for UTI. Couldn’t imagine going to anybody else.

Ellen Wolak

Very welcoming right from the moment I made the first appointment. Due to the COVID virus, I could not go in with my cat to see the vet but she called me and we had a great conversation. They took some blood and a few days later the vet called me with the results.

Cara Pabis

Awesome reptile vet! I thought there was a problem with my bearded dragon so I made an app to bring him in. Dr. Sara was knowledgeable, professional, and down to earth. UAC is clean and doesn’t smell like urine whatsoever. I love coming here and will continue to bring my pets here.

Tresha Keener

This was Tanks first visit and will be his only vet from now on!!! They were helpful, informative and friendly!! Thanks to everyone who works there!!! Tank had a great experience!

Dean Gibson

Yesterday was our first visit to this clinic. I brought my 6 year old Goffin Cockatoo Chance in for a wellness check and nail trim and also to discuss her ongoing feather plucking issues. Dr. Leigh Samanowitz was Amazing as were all the staff.

Margie Bauer
